Area community news: Utica man celebrates 100th birthday

A party via Zoom took place on Monday to celebrate the 100th birthday of lifelong Utica resident and World War II Navy veteran Maurice Landers.

Wishing him birthday wishes from California include his son Jim; daughter-in-law Dolores; grandson Billy and his wife, Gail; granddaughter Lily and her husband Kevin; great-grandson Matteo; granddaughter Fiona; and grandsons Brian Landers, Michael Landers and family. Maurice Landers received calls, gifts, balloons, cake, ice cream, and a Zoom internet production by son Tom Landers who lives with him. Denise, a friend of Tom Landers, helped with the celebration.

Maurice Landers was a telegrapher for New York Central Railroad, and enjoying contact as a ham radio operator. He was married for 73 years before his wife Mary passed away in 2016. Another son, Matt Landers, passed away in 2015.
