Boy Scouts honor veterans in Stockbridge Valley Cemetery

Observer-Dispatch - 5/9/2020

The Boy Scout slogan is "Do a good turn daily" ... how fitting for these crazy times.

Munnsville-based Troop 7 placed American flags May 2 on the graves of military members at the Stockbridge Valley Cemetery. This is a yearly tradition of the troop to do community service and offer respect to our fallen soldiers by placing the flags.

Scouts and their parents held a Zoom meeting April 30 to formulate a plan and make sure to still stay within social distancing protocols. They had three time slots available. Three families signed up during each time slot to work for one hour shifts.

They all worked in different sections of the cemetery, then the boys and their families switched out and the next group took over. They all found they had to be more creative this year given the social distancing rules but working together the job got done.

This outreach was also part of Logan Godaire'sEagle Scout project to check to see which graves needed American Legion markers and which already had them. Each group noted that information as the flags were placed.

Boys and families who helped included Eilene and Logan Godaire; Diana, Tristan and Evan Ellerbruch; Candice and Tyler Fisher; Heather and Tim Bernet; Edward and Eddie DeMenezes; Carl Griffith; Jessica and Rocco Pizzuto; Amy Cullen; Anna Morgan; Brain Theall; James Peterson; and scoutmaster Chip Ax, his wife Karen and their daughter Becca.
