Online Sunday blues shows raise funds to help Buffalo veterans

Buffalo News - 4/23/2020

Apr. 23--Some Buffalo musicians are presenting Sunday afternoon blues concerts on Facebook to help local veterans who need financial help.

Over the past month, the Buffalo Blues Online Concerts have raised more than $3,000 for veterans with urgent needs, according to Buffalo Blues Project organizer Bob James.

The donations are used to buy $50 Tops grocery cards, which are distributed through the Veterans One-Stop Center of WNY. Veterans and military families in need can call the center at 898-0110.

The next concert is from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday on Facebook. The show will feature Zuri Appleby, Joe and Chelsea O'Donnell, Bethany Fonda and Mom Said No. The lineup of performers changes each week.

Since its launch in 2016, the Buffalo Blues Project has produced concerts that raised more than $63,000 for veterans causes in the Buffalo area. More than 200 Buffalo area musicians have performed.

The project is supported by small local businesses and donations. It receives no state, county or foundation funding. Donations can be made through the Hometown Heroes Fund at venmo.com/blues4vets.
