Plywood board 12 inches square marked into 9 squares with 3/8 inch diameter by 1 inch dowels glued in the center of each square; and 12 wood pieces, 2 by 2 inches, half cut into circles (noughts, or "O"s) and half into squares or cross shapes (crosses, or "X"s) with holes drilled through them so they can be placed over the dowels.
