Willard schools to honor community veterans

Norwalk Reflector - 10/21/2018

Oct. 21--WILLARD -- Willard City Schools has announced the second annual Veteran's Day program, celebrating the service of the community veterans.

All area vets are invited to attend the program at 9:30 a.m.Nov. 7 in the Robert L. Haas gymnasium. Prior to the program, veterans are invited for a light breakfast and fellowship at 8:30 in the commons area. The guest is retired U.S. Army Col. Daniel Barnett, a Willard High School graduate.

WHS students have a passion for honoring veterans in their community, most recently hosting a military appreciation night football game and dinner in August. They are also very involved in Honor Flight Columbus.

"This program is one of the most important and meaningful activities we have ever done here at Willard. Our students love having the opportunity to meet our nation's heroes in person and shake their hands," health teacher Jason Ratliff said.

All attendees are highly encouraged to RSVP no later than Nov. 2 by calling 419-964-6439.

"Teen Leadership (Corps), student council and FFA are high school organizations led by teens hoping to make a difference in the world and connections throughout their community," Ratliff said.
