Journal, The (International Falls, MN) - 10/3/2015

The Veterans Center in Duluth has teamed with Koochiching County Veterans Service Officer Candance Rich to offer a meet and greet for combat veterans interested in seeking counseling and establishing a support group.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Backus Community Center. For more information contacted the VSO at 283-1179 or the Vet Center at 218-722-8654.

Free hot dogs, chips and beverages will be offered, as will customized dog tags. Families are encouraged to attend.

Rich said the Vets Center will compile a list Tuesday of veterans interested in counseling services for post traumatic stress disorder, military sexual trauma and other issues. After Tuesday, counseling services by veterans to veterans will be offered on the first and third Wednesdays of every month, she said.

"A lot of vets think they are the only ones going through what they go through," she said. "They are not."

The services will be provided free of charge.
