Point-and-Chat is an instant messaging program designed for use by individuals with communication or speech disabilities. This software allows users of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) devices to apply their AAC skills to produce written messages, even if the user cannot read. The program combines the customizable input screens of Saltillo's DesktopChat with screen-reading technology from Point-and-Read, Inc. The user produces text by using a customizable input screen. The text is automatically copied into the Instant Messaging interface, and sent when the user activates the SEND button. Any incoming message is automatically read aloud by the computer. Icons or photos are used to tell the tabbed conversations apart.
