Community Events with Food Available

Throughout the year, many communities have small gatherings or fairs to celebrate a specific item or theme, such as the Los Banos street fair. Other times, a community event is for a single purpose, such as the drag boat races in Merced. At most of these events, food is offered for sale.

California law requires the organizer of any event where food is available to obtain a permit from Environmental Health. Additionally, food vendors authorized to be at the event must have a food permit issued from Environmental Health.

Environmental Health has put together a guide that will help event organizers or food vendors to determine what they need to sell or give away food at these events.
